Steve Goddard –  Country Manager

Steve is a qualified Australian Lawyer with several years’ experience specialising in foreign direct investment under each of the Lao PDR, Cambodian and Myanmar legal frameworks.

As the Country Manager of Arion Legal, Steve is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the firm in Lao PDR which includes, among other tasks, overseeing and delivering all legal work handled by the firm, forging and maintaining client relationships, providing the highest standard of work and service to clients and managing and mentoring the firm’s professional and administrative staff.

His areas of expertise include advising on investments in a diverse range of industries and matters, encompassing corporate law and governance, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence investigations, regulatory compliance and industry-specific licensing (with a focus on the hydropower, mining and agricultural sectors) and providing assistance with the drafting of various agreements from a local law and commercial perspective. Aside from corporate matters, Steve advises numerous INGOs, embassies and development funds on a wide range of legal and social issues.

Steve has been involved in the drafting and/or review of project documents with regards to various hydropower and mineral development projects in Lao PDR and, furthermore, has legislative drafting experience relating to the Lao PDR mining industry, having overseen the drafting, consultation, presentation and finalisation of legislation currently under consideration by the Government of Lao PDR.

Steve is the appointed Honorary Legal Adviser to the British Embassy in Vientiane and sits on the board directors of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and the British Business Group in Lao PDR.
